Music therapy can enhance the physical development of children in that most musical activities such as playing musical instruments, movement to music, singing, or chanting require functional movement of body parts.

Diverse musical activities are effective for improving a wide range of physical skills including muscle strength, balance, gait, range of motion, and movement coordination.

Music also stimulates the neural pathways of sensory motor response, and plays an effective role in regulating temporal motor movements.

By applying the temporal and spatial properties of music, music therapists can help the children with physical disabilities to organize the functional movements, and facilitate the physical development.
